"To create performing arts is to manifest collective dreams, while beeing awake"
I am very honored to be nominated as a director for Årets Reumert for the The last performance I did as a resident artist at Studio Scenen at Aarhus Theatre; TRAUM. This beautiful, kinky acid bath of a subconcious dream, was for me a splendid example of the great privilege it is being a creative artist, when you have the right framework and partners.
Making a performance like TRAUM has an in-depth and long-lasting process behind it, which has given the opportunity to create a colabrative work with many great partners on and off-stage. We stribed for a more queer full fun of feverish fantasies. The play was based on Arthur Schnitzlers "dream story" from 1926, remade by Kubric in the 90s, and recreated for the Studio Stage together with playwriter Bjørn Rasmussen, the music collective; Solen Er Sexet, Holsterbro Dance Company, and a dedicated and talented cast of actors and dancers at Aarhus Theater.

As part of my participation in Bikubenfonden’s artistic practice program, I have invited one of my biggest sources of inspiration to Denmark, the New York-based performance artist Ann Liv Young. On October 3, 2023, she and I will join in conversation at Sort/Hvid, moderated by theatre critic Monna Dithmer. The conversation will revolve around our artistic incentives and motivations. How do you make use of ugliness and revulsion as artistic vehicles? And why? Does art need to satisfy, or to challenge? Does art necessarily have to provoke? And must art always respect the audience’s needs and boundaries?
In connection with Ann Liv Young’s visit to Sort/Hvid, she will be performing an excerpt from her upcoming performance, MARIE ANTOINETTE. Read more about the conversation and performance at Sort/Hvids website here.
